This symbol of an eclipse is of the miracle of the day of the coronation. That is the coronation of the Oba of Benin kingdom, His Royal majesty, Oba Erediauwa, CFR. Chief D. U. Edebiri, the present Esogban of Benin Kingdom described the miracle in the following words,
“The sun, the Moon and Stars were seen above moving gleefully in their individual courses and beaming to the world the unmistakable signal of divine approval for the enthronement of the new king. . . . that was the first time . . . that such signs and wonders have appeared in the heavens during the coronation of any Oba. Hence, it is imperative that we, the Binis must not play down this remarkable phenomenon . . . . With exception of one Late David Ogbebor, a local musician, who waxed a special album to commemorate this unforgettable event . . . other Benin artists, writers and cultural exponents have given this 20th century miracle little
or no attention.” (D. U. Edebiri, MOONLIGHT AT NOON. pp 43-44)
Such a celestial display is called AFANGIAKO.
